Description

Origin: Kenya, Kirinyaga, Mount Kenya
Producer:
Kangaita Tea Factory
Variety: Purple Tea
Altitude: 1500-2500m

This tea was cultivated on the eastern side of the Rift Valley, a key region in Kenyan tea production. The Kangaita tea factory is a cooperative of Kenyan tea farmers and is located on the southern slopes of snow‑capped Mount Kenya. The elevation created by the Rift Valley ridge system is ideal for tea cultivation, as the high altitude and moist climate help concentrate the flavors.

Kenyan purple tea (Purple Tea) is made from the young leaves, buds, and shoots of a specific naturally mutated Camellia sinensis var. assamica cultivar. These leaves, often plucked using the “two leaves and a bud” method, are naturally purple due to their high levels of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are antioxidants that the plant develops to protect itself from the intense sunlight of high‑altitude regions.
