Black Diamond comes from Las Lajas Estate, located in Costa Rica’s Central Valley-region, on the slopes of Poás volcano. The coffee is produced by six brothers of the Chacón-family. Sustainability is a critical part of their philosophy – including chemical-free production process, reuse of coffee mass as compost for new coffee plants and carefully moderated use of water (processes using only one cubic meter of water per day).
The estate’s washing station is located at 1300m and is run by Oscar Chacón, along with his wife Francisca. They started off operating the station on their own, but these days they employ 20 people. Their eldest son completed Q Processing Course Level 2 in 2020, so the future of the washing station seems to be in good hands.
